She’s been where you are.

“I remember walking out of that appointment thinking — how can I feel this off if everything is ‘normal’?”

Her story

It began with a moment she couldn’t ignore.

Dr. Mariya Farooqi’s path into functional and integrative psychiatry didn’t begin in a textbook. After a six-year pause from her pharmacy career to raise her children, she returned to clinical work with renewed energy. But not long after, something shifted.

Despite eating well, staying active, and living a full and meaningful life — her health began to change. Her sleep suffered. She was gaining weight and losing hair. She felt increasingly irritable in ways she couldn’t explain.

When she sought medical help, she was told everything was normal. But she didn’t feel normal.

Mariya, you’re trained in this — can you figure it out?

The question she asked herself that changed everything.

She began reading voraciously, exploring long-form health research, and revisiting her deep foundation in nutrition. Personal curiosity evolved into formal training through the Institute for Functional Medicine, where she became a Certified Practitioner — then an advanced fellowship in functional psychiatry with Psychiatry Redefined, under the mentorship of Dr. James Greenblatt.

Today, she uses everything she learned — from her clinical struggles and her own health journey — to help others who feel dismissed, confused, or stuck. She knows what it’s like to feel off with no clear reason. That’s exactly why she does this work.

Travel, food, yoga, painting — and a good sci-fi film.

When she’s not seeing patients or mentoring clinicians, she’s traveling with her family, discovering new cuisines, practicing yoga, painting, or getting lost in an indie or sci-fi film. She lives in DFW with her husband, daughter, and a cat.
